Zellij, NN Contemporary Project Space

My project at NN Contemporary's project space explored themes of repetition and mirroring using the photographic image. The concept was inspired by the Zellij tile work I have become fascinated with during my numerous trips to Morocco.

I have spent some time exploring how these pieces are constructed, I am interested with the idea of simplicity into complexity, the whole becoming more than just the sum of the parts.

I became friends with some of the local artisan's in Fes, their trade passed down from father to son, through the generations. Some working with plaster, some with wood and some with tiles, producing the beautiful Zellij tile work you can see below.
